Something about yourself

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Andy, a multidisciplinary designer, photographer, content creator and artist. I live in Prince Edward County, located in Southern Ontario Canada. I grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario (a suburb in the Greater Toronto Area) but really, I've lived online for almost my entire life.

Experience

For the past 7+ years I've worked in a variety of freelance positions in both legacy and emerging industries. From the technology sector to the consumer packaged goods sector I have an eternal hunger for knowledge and a creative spirit that keeps the lightbulbs burning bright. My camerawork has also taken me to large and small events, while my photography journey started as a hobby it later became a secondary pursuit and a larger part of my creative toolset.

Education

In 2016 I attended Humber Polytechnic for Media Communications degree and then later pursued an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design where I sharpened my design toolset and learned the fundamentals of the graphic design industry.

Background

Ever since I was a kid I've always enjoyed carefully (and sometimes not so carefully) ripping apart electronics and then trying my darnedest to put them back together. This had mixed results but it did teach me a lot along the way. Nowadays I'm a bit more careful (sort of).

The family computer was also a training ground for my future foray into design since it was loaded with professional design layout software. My mother was a graphic artist for a large grocery chain, and her work awarded her a top of the line Dell Dimension desktop PC. So instead of playing around with MS Paint, I had the ability to play around with QuarkXPress and Adobe Illustrator on special occasions. I did not dare mess with my Mom’s window configuration layouts. I remember vaguely working on some school projects with her using Quark Express, the software seemed so complex at the time.

Admittedly, I spent a lot more of my time on Internet Explorer and AOL's rendition of Netscape Navigator. The internet was my playground. I discovered GameSpy's forums, Newgrounds and Miniclip, oh and eBaum's World - that was definitely not a website for kids... but it did feed me a lot of early internet memes, political satire and internet culture. From that point on the web became a place I knew I wanted to be a part of long term.

Recreation

When I have free time I like to explore the more experimental side of design and photography through my artwork. I also love to go for long walks/hikes, capture photos of beautiful landscapes, read/write, cook, play video games and tinker with technology both old and new. I also just got into homelabbing!
